Do you know what it really means when it comes to the foods that we are all consuming?? GMOs are a complicated topic; but I will touch on the basics in this blog.
These days it is almost virtually impossible to stay away from GMOs 100%; and it certainly doesn’t help that there are no specific regulations on labeling GMOs. What it boils down to is that the large companies that produce 99% of the processed food and seeds in America (Monsanto, ConAgra, PepsiCo) and the regulating bodies (FDA, USDA) are in bed together.
Another attention-grabbing fact that most people aren’t aware of is that the six biggest producers of genetically engineered seeds—Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow Agrosciences, BASF, Bayer, and Pioneer (DuPont)—are also the biggest producers of chemical herbicides and insecticides. These companies are producing Round-Up to kill the weeds in your yard and everything within a 50 foot radius AND the seeds to grow your vegetables?! If you weren’t aware of this, you should be scratching your head at this point and starting to think…..

Unlike cross breeding or hybridization, which involve related species and have been done without poor effects for centuries; genetic engineering forcefully breaches the naturally-occurring barriers between entirely unrelated species.
- Corn injected with bacteria from the soil that is immune to herbicides and pesticides. Now we have GMO corn that can withstand MORE pesticides to kill the weeds that grow around it without killing the corn. Ultimately, that corn cob on your dinner plate is not only dripping with butter, but also pesticides.
- Salmon injected with growth hormone producing bigger fish. More fleshy fish = more money for the food producer. I don’t know about you, but I am certain that I would like my dinner without a side of growth hormone.
- Antibiotic resistant tomatoes modified for a longer shelf life and less rotting.

1. Corn: Corn is the #1 crop grown in the U.S. and 88% of it is genetically modified. In addition to being added to countless processed foods, genetically modified corn is a staple of animal feed. *Animals are not made to consume corn or grains; they should be eating grass*
2. Soy: 93% of soy is genetically modified. Soy is a staple of processed foods under various names including hydrogenated oils, lecithin, emulsifiers, tocopherol (a vitamin E supplement) and proteins.
3. Cottonseed: According to the USDA 94% f cotton grown in the U.S. is genetically modified. Cottonseeds are culled from cotton, and then used for vegetable oil, margarine or shortening production or frying foods, such as potato chips.
4. Alfalfa: Farmers feed alfalfa to dairy cows, the source of milk, butter, yogurt, meat and so much more. Alfalfa is the fourth largest crop grown in the U.S., behind corn, soybeans, and wheat.
5. Canola: About 90% of the US canola crop is genetically modified. Canola oil is used in cooking, as well as biofuels.
6. Sugar Beets: More than 54% of sugar sold in America comes from sugar beets. Genetically modified sugar beets account for 90% of the crop; and as we know, sugar is America’s drug causing all kinds of health issues.
