Please God, Our Kids Need…

by in Blog Posts, Inspiration, & Motivation May 4, 2020

I have to be inspired to blog. Inspired by a thought or moment that moves me so deeply, I am pushed to put it into words.

This blog was inspired by a dear friend of mine. From a phone conversation, we had last week. A phone conversation that centered around our kids and this pandemic we are living through.

We have been friends for 30 years. 30 years of up and downs and learning from each other. 30 years of sharing, laughing, crying, inspiring, and loving each other and our families. 30 years of expressing thoughts, ideas, and opinions.

We are both moms. Moms of the most amazing kids, all with huge hearts and passion for what they love. Horses, baseball, swimming, volleyball, leadership, their teammates. Our kids inspire us. We have shared that…lately through laughter. And tears.

You may have seen this before, but I felt moved to share it again. Because it moved me as if the author was speaking for me.
Because everyone may not understand. And that is ok. But right now, we know a lot of kids who are missing out on precious moments with things they are passionate about. They may say they are ok, but I think the truth is that this is affecting them more than we realize.

Nothing sums it up better, as this author was pushed to put her feelings into words. And I get it.

“One of my friends asked, “Why do you pay so much money for your kids to do all their sports”? Well, I have a confession to make; I don’t pay for my kids to do sports. Personally, I couldn’t care less about what sport they do.

So, if I am not paying for sports what am I paying for?
– I pay for those moments when my kids become so tired they want to quit but don’t.
– I pay for those days when my kids come home from school and are “too tired” to go to their training but they go anyway.
– I pay for my kids to learn to be disciplined, focused, and dedicated.
– I pay for my kids to learn to take care of their bodies and equipment.
– I pay for my kids to learn to work with others and to be good team mates, gracious in defeat, and humble in success.
– I pay for my kids to learn to deal with disappointment when they don’t get that win or title they’d hoped for, but still, they go back week after week giving it their best shot.
– I pay for my kids to learn to make and accomplish goals.
– I pay for my kids to respect, not only themselves but others, officials, and coaches.
– I pay for my kids to learn that it takes: hours and hours, years and years of hard work and practice to create a champion and that success does not happen overnight.
– I pay for my kids to be proud of small achievements, and to work towards long term goals.
– I pay for the opportunity my kids have and will have to make life-long friendships, create lifelong memories, to be as proud of their achievements as I am.
– I pay so that my kids can be out on the track instead of in front of a screen…
…I could go on, but to be short, I don’t pay for sports; I pay for the opportunities that sports provides my kids with to develop attributes that will serve them well throughout their lives and give them the opportunity to bless the lives of others. From what I have seen so far I think it is a great investment!”

Putting my feelings into words…
God, please allow all of our kids to get back out there. Please end this pandemic. Allow them to play what they love. To live out their passions. To share memories with their teammates. To embrace all of the opportunities listed above. There is no price we can put on this. We will pay for it.

Great message Lindsey! As always I am inspired by your words and actually wish I had read this years ago when I struggled to find the value of organized club sports back in IL. I pray for the return to all the things we love. Socializing is essential for all of our surval and it’s powerful way for us all to connect expecially our kids.

    • Thank you for your thoughts, Kelly! And I agree, whatever it is that you love and/or are passionate about, it needs to be a part of life <3

So true, every word. God will use this time to their advantage because that’s how He loves us. And maybe we will all be so much more grateful for the little things again, especially our kiddos.
